Microsoft Security Essentials. Or AVG free.

    If you like to pirate

    Vipre
    Eset NOD32

For the love of christ and all that is mighty don't use Mcafee or Norton unless you want to give them all your system resources.

As far as resource concious AV's -- I hear Vipre is pretty good.
Obviously number1 winner for the use of the least amount of system resources would go to Micro$oft Security Essentials.

If you're looking for added security it's always good to open web browsers and programs in a sandbox. If you google Sandboxie you will receive links to (IMO) the most important site on the web.

What it does is allow you to open browsers and programs in a "sandbox" essentially not letting them write anything to your harddrive. Feel free to visit all the infested sites you want, and open all the .exe keygens with trojans attached as long as you're doing it in a sandbox.
Also helps you keep your conscience clear when you're surfing porn

    Hope this helped

Depends on what you are looking for..

I install AVG on my family machines because its free and does not bog down the system. I find Norton to be ridiculous in what it does.

But I usually just use my common sense and don't download random .exe files.
