I agree with what you said. I have and would donate again, However I personally think he should release a very limited free version and a donation version.

I have seen and tested this product first hand and I think it would be a great shame for him to release the full version and hope for donations as I have seen how much hard work and dedication he has put into this so far and have no doubt he will continue to do so.

If he was just to release this then like you said there would be so many leechers for this product as it is awesome.

This should be the default gatherer for HB not just an addition/plugin someone made.

In order to call anyone "horrible leeching lairs" you first have to know they are horrible. Can you assume that a person on a forum is horrible because they voted to "consider" donating? Of course not. How is being generous horrible? Can you assume that a person that actually donates is leeching? Of course not. Leeching is sucking off of something (parasitic if you will) without giving back. FPS is not selling his product because he can not on these forums, therefore he is donating; giving something away with no thought of return. It is impossible to leech off a donation given that you do not expect a return. That brings us to liars. The original question is "Would you consider donating?" to which 367 people said "Yes of course! (I am assuming he meant Course and not cause). How is saying yes I will consider it and not actually donating lying? Maybe they considered it and decided not to given that FPS has been going through a rash of bans, has not opened the Beta, and has no plans on releasing util he works some issues out? I can not really speak to the minds of others; I can however speak to mine. Yes I voted to consider, but with no product released I can not donate. If or when released the product works as advertised I will consider it again and most likely donate a 6 pack or 2. The OP question was not "WILL you donate" but "Would you CONSIDER donating".

Canax your post makes you come off as an arrogant asshole that just wants to make others feel bad to make yourself feel better. I do not know if that is the type of person you are, and don't really care. I just wanted to point out the fallacy of your argument, because that IS the type pf person I am.

i, personally, would be very mad at him if he does so.
because he would be a horrible liar in my eyes; and all respect down the drain.

      /just my 2 cents

And can I just ask how you voted honestly.

I could with almost 100% certainty say that a lot of people would use this make gold or RL cash from it and not give a single $ in donations for this and that why I personally think he should not give out an unlimited free version.

I know donation are just that give or don't give and are not required but I think this is far to good to be just give it out and hope people might donate.

      /just my 2 cents

I dont think a lot of people see a problem with either angle,
but there are currently a lot of assumptions with paid addons, i.e.

the problem with this poll ... 55 pages later, is that it's become a litmus test for other authors potentially testing the water for paddons or donor addons that are in itself, kind of a murky grey area, with more smooshes of grey around the middle.

      if it's a purchase,
does it have full time support ? yes.
explicit payment and set prices ? yes.
purchaser/donator feedback is implemented on a short timeframe ? sure.
1400 page thread talking about how the last updates were so much better than the last few updates ? yep.
adding in "my really great idea for this thing where the character jumps a random number of times in BG's" ? happens at least once a month i'm sure.

Donation addons, don't have to have those questions, or really answer them. Any ambiguities or scruples in choosing features, are up to the developer's wishes to implement or ignore.

for most authored content, most features stay, go, or become desired based on a lot of factors. if an author goes and doesn't return, the donation is not really obligating to keep them on the project. so the risk is, there's no sense of obligation to update for newer versions, no legacy or handover if someone abandons a project, no custodian or manager to vet or approve changes or push them out to the public or donators only versions,

it just happens, or it doesn't. the forum decides, or someone takes up the torch. sometimes.

though one assumes there will be a great deal of professionalism where money is involved, donation ware, does not need to go to as great an effort to keep people happy. i could point to the handful of full time devs that handle "paid" addons and "donation" addons, and they are decidedly all professional, providing support, and fast updates, etc.

i don't doubt FJ will deliver
(when it's out ... any time now)

but it's the next guy. and the next girl. or vice versa, that sets up profiles or routines, bots, presets, caches, guides, videos, etc. for payment.

the survey results, IMO kind of points to that person being the one really taking notice of the results.

      edit :
i'm not beholding anyone to being on call, or setting up a contract for services, or pointing the finger, there are plenty of abandoned projects along the way. it's casual, i get that. people stop playing. it is a game after all, and RL beckons seductively at times, etc. authors are fickle and fantastic, and frustrating. that's what the label is.

the issue is more about supporting those projects under an umbrella that asks for donations, and how that's going to end up if BL gmbh has to support more donation addons that are half-paid and half-casual.

if BL handles support for an author that does something bad, they have to be a little responsible to keep the issue focused on the right person to fix it. and it's a lot of work if you break the current bot/routines into sections, and then try to corral the section leaders or forum mods into being the unofficial support team too.

      IDK.

donors are fine, it's just a question of how tBF/BL gmbh wants to support 3rd/4th party groups or support the authors/users equally if things go wrong that also needs some clarity. at this point, the survey has done it's job, and i think it probably needs to be moved into actionable content or a section of the forums created to handle 3rd party content providers with some backing / sticky threads for contact info/FAQ (self moderated), responsibilities /obligations and a regular update thread obligation for public / private content.

I voted maybe ... I have donated a few times, when I felt a certain routine were much above average, and when something is "the best" I feel it's worth donating for.

I couldn't say... I'd need to wait to see how it works, so far it does look very good.

No, it is not going to happen anytime soon. The developer is being targeted by Blizzard and can not get a working account in order to continue creating/playing WoW.

Development is continuing but at a much slower pace.

Those involved in the closed beta testing will have noticed updates coming out every few days over the last 4 to 6 weeks.

FarmerJoe is still going ahead and will be released when it's ready or when Blizzard completely crush all motivation and desire to continue working on this project.

Blizzard: that is not an invitation to once again pull out the ban hammer.

One suggestion: be able to save a profile with all the settings so you don't have to reselect options for each of your 50 chars.

Farmer Joe is not designed for professional farmers / gold sellers. If you have 50+ characters then Farmer Joe is unlikely the botbase for you.
