Honorbuddy on Linux ?

Okay.. I srsly need to change from windows. Because my computer starts turning itself off once the graphic card gets somehow hot.
And this annoyes me very much.. since it happend when i do a bg or something like that.

So i did some reading about this topic.. And i found it that the only problem was .net framework not working with wine. But that thread was from 2010.
And a lot have happend in two years. So my question is as following. Is it possible these days to run Honorbuddy with wine ? Or is it still not possible after two years?

Please don't reply on things i could do to help my graphic card. I know what i could do. It's just not in the possebilities yet.

Yes i would. But with the use if wine. Which makes it possible to run Windows programs under linux it's most likely possible.

But wine from what i read, two years ago didn't support .net framework with it.. But i don't know if that still applies today.

 

And that would prevent your gfx card from overheating how?

Well.. For your information Linux is not as heavy as Windows. So it takes a much longer time for it to get overheating.. -.-

 

Your graphics card is not overheating from running Windows. Your graphics card is overheating from running WoW. That does not change when you run Linux.

Also; no, HB will not run on Linux. It will run under VirtualBox but only if you run Windows in your Virtualbox.

In the end you're going to have to solve your videocard issues, which aren't Windows related.

 

I'm assuming the overheating comes from running the game, which is probably the only thing making your gfx card work hard. I don't see a reason why it would have to do less under linux then it would under windows running the same game. I could of course be totally wrong on this.

Have you tried to figure out why your gfx card is running hot? Overclocking? Broken fan? Bad airflow in the case? Dust? ... That would probably be easier to fix then to get HB to run under wine.

 

The thing i could think of would be dust.. I have never taken the card out and cleaned it.. So Maybe i'll attempt that for once. I'm only worried that i would harm it in some way with taking it out.. (Not a big pc wiz)

Nothing much to worry about, just use some common sense and don't poke it with sharp objects or use a metal sponge to clean it

 

It sounds like its either dirty (hopefully its just that) - or that the ball bearings in your fan on your graphics card have seized up. I had this happen to me before with an older graphics card - there was so much dust built up on it that even after i cleaned it the fan just would not run. If your fan is not working at all, and you cant afford a new graphics card right away, you can do what I did for a quick fix. I just went and bought a case fan for $10 from radio shack, and instead of mounting it in the case I just plugged it in, and used a hot glue gun to glue it to the bottom of my case right in front of the heat spreader on the graphics card. That worked for me for well over a year until I replaced the graphics card. Good luck.

 

Yeah.. I'll actually take the card out now just to clean it some. Then i'll buy some compressed air tomorrow or something..


But its some what hot (the card) Is it dangerous to just take it out and blow some dirty out?

 

Make sure to unplug your pc, don't just turn it off, before you pull the card out. If you don't have compressed air you can always use a soft (paint)brush and a vacuum cleaner, compressed air should be safer though.

 

*NEVER* use a vacuum cleaner! The air rushing through the plastic pipes generates static electricity which is likely to fry your hardware.
Be careful with compressed air as well. The cans of compressed air, when used to long, tend to spray the liquid nitrogen out, resulting in very, very cold liquid coming out instead of just plain air.

 

Wine does work with .NET 4.0 & DX9 now so I can't see why it would not work?

 

Okay.. So i atttempted to clean the graphic card.. But i couldn't get it out -.-

 

Miikalsen, I repair pc's for a living cleaning a graphics card is very easy but you need to be very careful.

Remove the card from the pc, normally 1 screw, there will be a release button down next to the motherboard on the left hand side of the card at the front press that and with your other hand lift the card. making sure not to touch the electronics.

from here, on your card u will see small screws near the fan, unscrew these normally 4 of them. remove the cover. now use a hoover or a brush to remove the dust.
be very careful when doing this not to damage the fan. using compressed air will not work, it just pushes it into the corners which then will roll up and block the fan completely stopping the fan which in turn will blow up the card.
