They can scan their own software and detect a .dll injected into it.

      ever hear of Punkbuster?

detecting players botting should be trivial, if they keep track of things like settings, version of client, etc
They could easily find botters using legal methods/not using warden

      Perhaps they finally got smart

I hope that Blizzard is ready to see their user base disappear. All that will be left are Chinese farmers and 10 year olds. After this I am done.

I'm assuming using the 32-bit client could have been a huge giveaway to something not being right. You want to ban a lot of people. Start by filtering out everyone using 32-bit client. It's not the default client and there's really no reason to run it. Now you've substantially lessened the names in your playerbase list and you start applying more and more filters until you find patterns.

I'm not sure they are scanning. I haven't taken any steps to hide my HB folder, yet I was not hit. I'm curious whether this 'new detection' is a recent thing, as I haven't been playing/botting for the last 2 months.

This. I always thought it was a bad idea not to upgrade to a 64 bit because very few legit people would be running 32 bit client. It's easy for me to say, I know it was only possible to do what they did because Blizz fucked up once and released the 32 bit client data, but the fact that HB could only run 32 bit was going to be used against it sooner or later.

They never did though because it just wasn't worth the $$ to do so. At the end of the day, the original audience for HB, trash account gold farmers, have had 5 years of botting with bans here and there. This is merely a setback for them... They will be back with some other bot.

For those of us who used HB as a crutch for our gameplay or as a way to take out the boring shit, we are the one's hit hardest, and there's not much can be done. As they said 'we told you not to use your main accounts'.

Blizzard did this for one reason. They kicked long standing members to get them to pay for the game again on another account.
