So my desktop is like 120lbs and hard to carry around so i think it would be a good idea to get a laptop. I'm looking for a laptop that Will be able to run 3 wow accounts on all low settings and when I'm playing be able to run everything on high. I never ran more then 1 account at a time so i dont know how much ghz your cpu has to be,how much ram you need, and so on. I was looking at best buy and these are my options......

      ASUS - Laptop / Intel? Core? i7 Processor / 17.3" Display / 8GB Memory / 750GB Hard Drive - Black - G73SW-BST6
      or
      ASUS - Laptop / Intel? Core? i7 Processor / 17.3" Display / 8GB Memory / 1TB Hard Drive - Black - G74SX-BBK7

pretty much the same thing with small differences. Any help at all would very much appreciated.

I would buy the second one (G74) to be honest, but it highly depends on your own needs.

      Why would i do so?
      - It has a USB3 port (I got an external HDD with USB3 support and an USB-Stick) and its really an huge increase of performance!
      - 250GB extra HDD space are nice, but i dont know if you need it.
      - The grafic card is a little bit better. Depending on the benchmark it delivers between 17% and 2% more power.

      Anyway:
Both will work. The graphics in G73 would also fit your needs ( and much more then that).
Just see if its worth in your opinion.

I *love* ASUS G-series computers. Not only great hardware and decent price, but their warranties are the best in the industry.

I currently have a G53JW (previous one was a G1S), and regularly run the following with it (simultaneously)....
      • 5 WoWclients (graphics are low, but it works with them set to high also) + 5 HBs
I believe it would easily do another 3-5 WoWclients/HBs, but don't have the accounts to try it.
      • VisualStudio
      • Firefox (with about 40 tabs open)
      • Thunderbird
      • Financial (trading) app
      • Skype
I run the Dexpot virtual desktop, but the limiting factor is still screen real-estate (1900x1080) instead of CPU/Memory/Disk. It can handle an external monitor, but my work environment doesn't allow for that.

If you are a touch-typist, you will find that most ASUS laptops like to drop characters. There are some forum threads about this, and I've managed to correct mine by updating the BIOS, and their ATK utility (does the keyboard lighting, and fancy Windoze interface to enable/disable WiFi/bluetooth/sound/etc).

I've had ASUS laptops for about 7 years now (along with Sony, Lenovo, and Dell). ASUS beats the pants off the competition (except for perhaps boutique machines like Alienware, but those cost a good bit more, also).

I wouldn't touch HP with a 10-foot pole, and would never buy a Dell again. Customer service & warranties for those two are the absolute worst. Also, HP is exiting the hardware business (my jaw dropped, but the board claims it wants to focus on 'software only'. Ha!).

Edit: Be careful if you buy ASUS from BestBuy (maybe some Amazon suppliers, and others). Frequently, these machines are built with BestBuy considerations (perhaps cheaper screens, slightly slower CPUs, smaller memory, etc), and include only a one-year warranty instead of the normal two-year warranty. Such machines carry a non-standard model suffix (i.e., you won't find it listed on the ASUS website). The G73SW and G74SX are both listed on the Asus site, so you're probably good. Just be sure you get the standard ASUS 2-year warranty with it.

Also, you may want to read some reviews (http://forum.notebookreview.com/), a few years ago the G53JX/G73JX had overheating problems. That's why I waited for the G53JW. The newer ASUS designs have eliminated that problem completely. The G53JW is the quietest and coolest laptop I've had--even when under heavy load. It gets warm, as all gaming laptops do, but no where is it really hot. It doesn't get warm under the keyboard, all the heated airflow moves out the back.

One more upside, ASUS is one of the few companies that ships a 150W power block instead of the normal 80W power block. Although the block is a bit more bulky, it allows the laptop to run at full speed. "Gaming" laptops that use < 100W power block frequently cause the CPU to go into 'power throttling' mode, and either your CPU or graphics will suffer because of this. Simply buying a bigger power block doesn't always help--as the system has to be built for proper power management (i.e., the CPU and graphic card(s) communicate on a 'power control bus'). ASUS builds systems properly for this, and gives you the adapter big enough that its not an issue. :D

One more downside, as a gaming laptop, the battery life stinks--maybe an hour. But, the G53JW was prior to the Sandybridge chipset which is supposed to help that immensely.

cheers & good luck with your decision,

Thank you china made me feel more comfortable with buying a ASUS laptop. I will eventually run 3 wow accounts(max) like i said before. Well being able to still have tabs in chrome, and VisualStudio. I also would like to be able to run 2 bots and play the third. So i guess i will have to come up with a little more money and just buy the G74. You seem like a expert of sorts on ASUS so atleast i know who to go with if i dont want to play 21 questions on the phone :)

I have got my sixth Asus laptop now within the last 4 years.
The first five notebooks all had problems. I had nearly everything: Overheating problems, damaged display, hdd, mainboard, cpu, touchpad.

Well, maybe that souns not that good, but:
They always repaired their shit. They always gave me 100% of my money back after the third repair.

Both are way to go for 4 (3 on background + 1 on high, maybe not 100% high, but 80% at least) accs, just choose the one that fits your minor reqs better (USB3, etc).

I'm selling my Xbox 360 because I realized when i play wow i don't have time for other video games. Now all i have to do is sell my desktop and get the laptop from best buy. If anyone has a second could you tell me the estimated worth of my desktop. As i don't know what the average values are of a "outdated" computer.

      Mainboard : Asus P5GC-MX/1333
      Chipset : Intel i945G/GZ
      Processor : Intel Pentium XE @ 2666MHz
      Physical Memory : 4096MB (4 x 1024 DDR2-SDRAM )
Video Card : ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 Series
      Hard Disk : Western Digital WD5000AACS-00ZUB0 (500GB)
      DVD-Rom Drive : SONY DVD RW DRU-842A
Monitor Type : Hewlett Packard HP w1907 - 19 inches
Network Card : Attansic (Now owned by Atheros) L2 Fast Ethernet 10/100Base-T Controller
Operating System : Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.01.2600 Service Pack 3 (32-bit)
      DirectX : Version 9.0c

As always help is appreciated but not mandatory :).

Yeah i was figuring I would only get half the money for the laptop. I think the monitor is the only thing that makes the desktop worth more then $175 or so. I was going to post it on craigslist for $250 and see how it turns out. I would gladly take $200 as long as i have the money to buy my laptop that day.

      Just a heads up.

It turns out, the "-BSK6" and "-BBK7" models are 'Bestbuy-specific models', so be very careful you're getting what you think you are.

Asus suffixes end with "-A1", "-A2", "-B1", etc. My last purchase was from Gentech PC, and I was very, very happy with them.

      cheers,

I know the laptop will run anything I throw at it like a champ but the only thing left for debate would be the internet connection. My current desktop i have wireless-g and it has very good signal but still tends to load slow. What would you exspect from a laptop when it comes to your internet connection. Also is there any way to boost my internet speed for the laptop and ATM.

Thank you china for pointing that out. I was actually in the middle of reading best buy reviews and a couple comments referred to the "cheap lcd"

Yeah sure it will be better to get the real deal instead of a "knock off" these are my choices

GenTech PC - Asus N73SV-A3 17.3 inch Full HD notebook
GenTech PC - Asus K72JR-C1 17.3 inch notebook
GenTech PC - Asus K73SV-A1 17.3 inch HD+ Sandy Bridge Notebook
GenTech PC - Asus K73E-A1 17.3 inch HD+ Sandy Bridge Notebook

I'm leaning more towards one of the bottom 3. I just want one that will run the 3 wows. doesnt have to run them and 37 other things. I'll just use my ipod for internet well bots running. The second thing is when i play i want no lag weither its 25m or 10m.....anything

sorry for double post. wont let me edit this one into the first and delete this one.
