2 posts so far of bans after Warden update. That's totally nothing out of the ordinary. No purge sweeps, no nothing? Seems pretty fine, unless Blizz is gearing up to do a huge purge.

Also, if I bot on WoW. Are they going to destroy my entire Battle.net account? I mean I have a full CE version of Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 RoS on my account too. I've spent €€€ on my account and Blizzard games etc.
Getting banned on WoW is 1 thing but.. people keep referring to 'account' does that mean I will lose my chance to play other Blizzard games on the same account? (Thinking now, fuck I should have registered a second Blizz account to activate those games.. shit)

Don't worry about your other games. After a WoW ban, you will still be able to log on to their battle.net site, which means everything is still in place. They only block you from using any WoW service, effectively crippling the client.

Eaven if you have 2 wow accounts registered on your Bnet Account and you get banned on one account, you can still use the other one. I have some Bnet Accounts with 3 or 4 wow accounts on it and I poweleveled them using RAF and botted on all of them all the time. If one gets banned, all the others are still fine.

There are, of course, situations where Blizzard will ban your entire collection of "WoW" accounts if your actions are too severe.

OT: I'm really really really tempted to start botting again, so I can level up my alt and rewatch Firefly simultaneously. :(

It's still far too early if there is a banwave coming. Generally it can be anywhere from 3 or 4 weeks to 2 months or more before we get the wave itself. Any bans you see coming through are probably report related. We actually do not know if there will even be a banwave as tripwire kicked in.

It'd be silly of Blizzard to instantly ban everyone if the bot was detected. They'd wait it out for a few weeks.

Blizz never bans 1-by-1 when it comes to such a large scale of botters/dupers, we have seen it in the past with Glider, The herb of death in 2013, RBG rating share, and PQR in 2014 etc. They were all mass ban at once.
And now thinking of it, just those 4 mass bans together were like 3+ million accounts in total (if not more), banned.

So here is a simple question for you, do you think Blizzard is scared to trow out a mass ban again, if necessary?
And do you really think Blizzard will lose money? I doubt so.

Either you get banned or not, See you in WoD ;)

So with the auth servers up everyone using honorbuddy right now is beta testing warden. Seems kinda crazy.

Thats the way it is. Luckyly I cecked back into the forum here after 3 months just at the day the new warden is up and luckyly I noticed the announcement. A warning email would have been nice.

Are you sure about that? Where did those figures come from? I ever only read figures between 50k and 200k per banwave...

If Snowstorm banned 3 millions accounts that would be a total loss around $30.000.000 (+-20%) revenue... per month!

I am talking here about a 5 years time span, of course they didn't mass ban ALL in one month? -.-

      - 2009 - Mass ban Glider
Not sure what happened in 2010-2011
      - Jan 2012 - Mass ban Pirox botters
      - Dec. 2012 - Mass ban Win trading in RBG
      - Feb. 2013 - Mass ban due Herb dupe (Herb of death) (reports of 600k+ accounts being banned, lots of "semi-innocent" people who only wanted to try out this "trick" to d/c a friend for fun, banned)
      - Sept. 2014 - Mass ban PQR rotation bot.
      - Aug. 2014 - ???

And all the thousands individuals in between, who got banned for whatever reason.

So ya, be warned, either take the risk or wait.

      Peace!

I'm a C# developer, not the kind of one that could build monsters of programs but... it seems to my knowledge that Honorbuddy crew is knowing the secret but cannot share it due to probably an NDA in accordison with Blizzard. My best guess here is that Blizzard gave them a heads up in court, an NDA too (I don't know how German Law system works, maybe information inside of a closed court hearing cannot be released until 30 days after) about this Warden-specific targetting of Honorbuddy.

But if the Honorbuddy crew knows Warden is going after them, is there nothing... to counter Warden - perhaps this attack itself? Tripwire for example means honorbuddy realizes Warden is scanning a memory part Honorbuddy is using, that's my biggest guess on how Tripwire work. Another hacker I'd say that created cheat program had this anti-warden protection that he'd scan, many times, to see where Warden was scanning, and he'd work around those memories. As for Honorbuddy, well, the reason I introduced myself as an average-at-the-best C# developer, maybe some functions of honorbuddy require access (and is dependant) to memorylocations that Warden is scanning. Or maybe there are workarounds. Know what Warden is looking for, because as far as the thesis on viruses and antiviruses go, the virus is always one step ahead because the antivirus has to adapt.

Now this other... hacker I mentioned in my post, he'd make a system to shadow his own program that injected into Blizzard's client memory, and make Warden scan a clean client at the same time. Warden had no idea what was going on because it was scanning the wrong client, an innocent client all along.

wajke....what are you saying? Do you actually believe Blizz would warn Bossland of a Warden change? To what end? What game plan?

Tripwire does not directly detect that Warden is scanning part of Honorbuddy. Tripwire looks for new scans or changes within Warden period. When it finds it, it shuts the system down in an effort to protect botters and allow HB time to review the matter.

This part is an assumption by me but I say this in seeing how things have happened in the pass. Tripwire activated and HB did a short analysist and determine this is not a out and out detection and botters could move forward, however there is something new being done that bothers them and increases the chances of someone being caught and hence the warning. The 30 days they speak of I believe is for them to properly analyze the problem and determine the way forward. This could mean a partial or even major rewrite of bot to avoid detection because they can see where Blizz is going with the recent update and maybe this has been a fear they have had now realised.

I make this assumption based on previous HB experiences. Normally when there is a decent change to the Warden or Blizz coding there is downtime of about 4 to 7 days depending on how serious the matter is. Them saying 30 days means this could be major. Them opening the servers back up tells me its not out and out detection but something that makes it easier for them to detect bot in general.

Generally when Blizz attacks they target basically a specific bot but it also can catch other bots also. This update seems to be tagetting HB but we may hear of other bots being hit also.

But NO. Blizz would in my opinion NEVER EVER tell HB what's coming. That would defeat the purpose of doing it as their goal is to hit as many accounts as possible. And doing it before WoD is brilliant because many more will rejoin because they want to get WoD and have to buy all their expansions again. So the way they see it is 50/50. Yes they will loose some botters who will pack up and not come back but this maybe offset by others rebuying all those previous expansions along with new people joining up.

Mostly blizz would be going after arena/battleground or dungeons.. not so much the other stuff as that's already not so hard to detect, if you've been on the wow forums it's mostly battleground complaints... again, blizzard doesn't update warden until it KNOWS it can detect a large amount of botters, my guess is that they've increased the flags that cause the automatic bans (like for GB2 in MoP to protect the high level herbs/ores).

the very weird thing is that they don't usually perform "real" action after 6 months of each year (if you look at the banwave pattern over the past 5 years you'll see this).. it's definitely something new and special.

If I remember correctly, this is what they did to hide maphacks in Starcraft II. Basically, you'd make a copy of SC2 (I assume that this also doubles the memory footprint) then redirect everything happening from the old client to the new one.

Nothing will happen in the upcoming weeks.

      Not a damn thing.

There is no proof whatsoever that Warden is tagetting HB yet you all speak about it.

Your making an elephant out of a musquito. Nothing is going to happen.

If they want us, we would be gone, years ago.
