I'm really worried I'm going to get perma banned for botting after botting one of my chars to max level the other day. I keep worrying about it. I'm curious, how long has it taken Blizzard to ban you after you've stopped botting? Has anyone here stopped botting and then got hit with a ban like 6 months later? Also, how likely is it if they issue a perma ban first offense it can get appealed?

Dont bot on your main account if you are worried. It is likely to get a perma ban on first offense if u are involved into gold trading.

Blizzard can ban what they want, for what reason they want. You are not safe on any accounts.

What I'm asking is, how long has Blizzard waited to ban some of you guys? Like have you stopped botting then you get hit with a ban a year later?

I have been botting for years on my main account just leveling and shit and not once been banned, Questing is the safest thing to bot as long as you monitor it.

      indefinately.

main account (lightly botted 10 years) no bans
1st botting account (something around 8 years) heavly botted no bans
2nd botting account (heavly botted and used for all sorts of shenanigans) 1 time banned 72hrs for pqr

however, no answers in this thread will get you even the slightest pointer on if your account is save or not. you can get banned after botting 1hr or after 20 years it doesnt matter, there is only 1 simple and golden rule no matter what anyone says or swears on, dont bot on accounts you never would want to loose.

if you bot sooner or later you will get caught it might take 1hr or it might take 20 years.

yes people have recieved a ban weeks or even months after they botted and stopped.

there is no measurment or golden rule if an appeal will go through or not. its 50% it will be dropped to 72hrs and its 50% it will stay perma.

None of you has understood op's question...
He is wondering about the following situation

      - You bot on your account (let's say for questing)
      - You definitly stop botting for a while
      - You get banned : how many days/weeks/months after botting did it occur ? What is the longest that ever happened between the fact you stopped botting and Blizzard hits you ?

I think u dont read the answer here from previous post??

BLIZZARD CAN BAN YOU EVERYTIME for EVERY REASON (may be the dont like your hair) and its legal if u read their ToS.
There is no time frame to get "clean". Blizzard knows enough about botting, they know the problem BUT WE ALL KNOW this is a Business and they want earn money.
Have u ever think about why they investigate half-automate? I got an account where i only bot for archievments = no bans in 5 years with 12hours a day botting every day....

On my other machine i simply farm the gold with all oppurtunitys which exist.... i get banned after 3 days( from 5th March 2015)
They are not stupid and blizzards employees are gamers too... They know how the whole thing runs ;)

      Sensatus,

TLDR: Its a widespread consensus that you can get banned anytime completely up to their discretion. However a few things things to consider,

While blizzard certainly works to ban botters, it simply is not the utmost priority they have on their plates. They don't go around investigating transaction logs, zone and dungeons logs of individual characters out of the blue, and this is where the flagging theory comes into play.

Surely upon being investigated blizzard will find out everything about an account and its nearly guaranteed at this point that it will get banned. The key it would appear then is to not get flagged for investigation by a game master. This is where it gets fuzzy as many theories claim that running multiple accounts on one IP, Install taps, MAC addresses, player reports and a endless number of other ideas as to what could cause a flag. I personally believe Blizzard doesn't have the time or care to check into IP, Install taps, other out-of-game flags until an account is already being investigated. This just makes sense to me: I suspect after a certain number of player reports on your character that this process begins.

In answer to your question I think that if you did not get banned while actively botting, and have made it past a ban wave (check the ban report section), Blizzard has most likely not investigated your account. So in theory your account should be fine until you acquire more flags.

Hope this helps boss, I know the anxious life

I'm guessing that because no one has reported ever getting banned a year or two (or more) after botting that Blizzard simply doesn't ban accounts after awhile. Everyone is screaming that Blizzard can ban you at any time, and while that is true--that doesn't mean it has actually happened.

I was dealing with a lot of this stuff with commercial quadcopter/drone piloting. For a long time it was illegal to fly a quadcopter for commercial use, but the FAA simply didn't prosecute anyone. They just weren't doing it. And I think this is one of those situations. The OP asks if anyone has actually gotten dinged after a long period of not botting, and the evidence in this post is that no one has. It sounds like you either get detected within a month or botting, or you never get detected.

Whether they can actually detect you and ban you after a long period of time wasn't the question. The question was whether or not Blizzard followed through and actually banned people who have quit botting after a long time--the answer to that question sounds like a no.

Of course to be fair. A lot of people who have probably stopped botting a year or so ago have probably also stopped visiting these forums, and their input is missing.

Those that start botting don't stop botting till they are banned. You aren't going to find anyone responding in this thread that's stopped botting. People like that don't come to these forums anymore.

With that being said, if you bot, expect to be banned. It may not be today, or even a month from now, but you will almost definitely be banned at some point.

Pretty sure they were storing pqr users for 5 to 6 month before the ban, i'd say the general "gathering" time for mass bans would be about 12 weeks before.

How do they amass this list from the Gathering Time? Is it from scans or investigations and do they just wait until a period to ban a set amount of people ?

General consensus from people I know is that they do two types of bans. Immediate for the super blatant / most likely to cause harm, and delayed bans for less-harmful but we want to make a point or gather info "waves."

Think of it this way (weird example incoming). Police are after drug dealers. Some dealers carry guns, fight, steal, are very harmful. These guys get busted RIGHT AWAY because they need to be off the streets. Other dealers only deal to make money. The police set up operations where they buy drugs from them, data-mine them for drug link info, etc.

The most harmful botters get insta-banned. The other botters get flagged, mined for data, then all banned in a mini-wave to make a statement.
