I sort of expected something like this might happen, but I'm hoping paypal is a solid company when it comes to something like this. Is there anything I can do or is it a lost cause?

Its been about 7 days since they bought it from me, they've had complete access since then.

I am 99% sure they will get their money back...thats how it goes with Paypal and virtual goods.

Just reclaim your account and open a ticket that youve been hacked.

They have the secret password, its going to be hard to keep it safe now. According to a paypal policy I read (which may not be recent) they don't protect buyers who pay for non-tangible or non physical goods. That to me means they'd be on my side. Has their policy changed?

Pretty ridiculous if it has. That leaves people selling virtual goods completely screwed.

Not to mention the money has already been spent. I figured once the money was out of paypal and in my bank account, that was the end of that. Guess I'm going to have to ask for a refund on what I bought, which really sucks because it was on sale and out of stock, so I wont get that deal again.

And don't give the buyer any warning that you are doing so. You don't want him to have any emails etc that he can forward to Blizz as evidence you sold it to him...

Also with any luck, he'll have some gold/mats on the account :)

I don't care about the account, I sold it because I'm done with it. I just think its bullshit that they can do this. The guy is claiming unauthorized access to his paypal account. Either they're lying because they got what they wanted (which is probably the case) or some one got hacked (not my fault) but I'll take the fall for it.

P.s. even if he did have emails to forward to Blizzard, they wouldn't care. They aren't going to suspend/ban an account because some one sent them emails stating a guy sold them the account.

Either way, we just talked over AIM

Apparently you can close your paypal account and tell your bank to refuse withdrawls from paypal. Sounds legally dicey to me, so I dunno if I'd want to do that. But I don't want to get ripped off either.

The only way paypal will protect you is you send the account information to the mailing address of the buyer. You MUST have a tracking number for paypal to verify. If you have a tracking number that verify the buyer address then your fine. If you don't have those things, like other posters say, call Blizzard and tell them you have been hacked. You thought Blizzard sent you a legit e-mail where you entered your full information. Request to have your SQ changed but you must have your CD key associated with that account.

If wow account is registered to your name, you will always be able to get it back. If they will get 2 ID scans/photos from different people, they will ask you to make a photo of your ID with a recent newspaper. You will also be able to change your answer to secret question after that.

This is just to much shit to go through. Especially since it wouldn't be me going through it. I originally bought the account from a rl friend a year ago when he quit. I'm not going to come back to him and be like hey man, can you go thru and do all this shit for me.

There is no way paypal should be able to reverse this transaction. There just isn't. If they do I'll stop using them, cause thats just a bullshit way to shaft people who aren't selling physical goods.

Well yeah, I just figured you can sell it again if it doesn't get banned, and get to recover some money.

Hmm I guess maybe not, but since Blizzard doesn't exactly publish their policy on this, I wouldn't be 100% sure of that. Pays to be careful, that's all I'm saying.

Did they withdraw the money from your bank or does your paypal states a negative balance?

Disputing and unauthorized access are different things. If they disputed it, you will get your money back as buyers are not protected. If they claimed unauthorized access you are pretty much fucked and will lose the money.

Unauthorized Access, which is straight bullshit. Its not my fault if the person can't keep their account secure.

The money hasn't been withdrawn from the bank, my account has a negative balance atm.
